Moms often ask me if I have questions that I use to go along with the books that I suggest to them. While teaching, I often used open-ended questions with my students, which work for any book (picture book or chapter book). In Sarah Mackenzie’s book, The Read-Aloud Family: Making Meaning and Lasting Connections With Your Kids, she has a whole chapter designated to connecting to your kids using compelling questions. Many of these are ones that I used while teaching. I designed these 10 questions into a bookmark so that they can be easily accessible while you’re reading aloud to your kids.
