These “Welcome to the Museum” books are absolutely lovely! They are a delight for kids (and adults) to look through and even make great coffee table books. The large size of the books (11″x15″) means the illustrations are big, bold and beautiful. Any of these books would make great gifts for kids or adults!

These nonfiction Anatomy books are three of my favorite books in our whole library. Buy 1, 2 or all 3 in a set! We use the Nature Anatomy weekly during our Nature Study time. If you know a nature-lover, farm-lover or food-lover, these books are sure to be a treasure for them to dig into.

My kids and I recently dove into reading more biography stories about famous (and some not-so-famous) people of history. You can’t go wrong with any of Ingri & Edgar Parin d’Aulaire books. Titles include books about Benjamin Franklin, Abraham Lincoln, Columbus, Buffalo Bill, George Washington, Leif the Lucky and Pocahontas. Purchase them each separately or as a bundle (see below).  Hero Tales by Dave & Neta Jackson and the Christian Heroes: Then & Now series are both favorites as well.

Looking into starting a nature journal? My kids and I draw what we find when we are on our nature hikes. Here’s what we use.

ITEMS FOR READ-ALOUD TIME

Here are some great items that kids can play to keep their hands busy while you read-aloud. Magnets, puzzles, Supertoobs and models that can be put together are some various options. I put these items in a basket near our couch so that they are easily accessible when our read-aloud time begins. Put some of these on your kids’ Christmas or birthday wishlist for the grandparents to buy. I always love when my kids get toys that can double as quiet activities to play with during school time. [Tip: For younger kids, I buy the cheap cartoon puzzles at the Dollar Store and put little sticker magnets on the back of each piece. Then the kids can build these puzzles on a cookie sheet. Since the puzzles are so cheaply made, I found that the magnets help to keep the puzzle together better. They make great toys for the car, too!]

ELECTRONICS

We LOVE audiobooks, and it’s been helpful for each of our kids to have their own CD player in their room. Here are two different ones that we’ve bought that were inexpensive but have worked great for listening to books on CD from the library. These are the headphones that they each have, too (which come in various colors).
